Rescue/Shelter work
Whether it is assessing an animal, working with adopters to keep animals in the home or helping train animals currently in the care of a rescue to help them become more adoptable, Caitlin has worked for rescues/shelters in a variety of roles for over 13 years. She has created behavior departments, mentored staff to their national training credentials and developed programs ranging from enrichment to volunteer training to playgroups. Caitlin continues to offer assessments for animals and training for staff at rescues and shelters throughout the southern US.
Decompression Board & Train for Shelter Dogs
We have been quietly offering this service for a few years now but it has become so frequently requested we are making it official. Due to the beauty of living and having our training facility on a beautiful farm in the Appalachian Mountains is that we are set up to allow dogs to de-stress from shelter life. We have plenty of acres surrounded by woods & fields to give dogs space to just breathe and relax. We focus on decompression and weaning off medication in preparation for living in a home environment and assessing if the animal is safe for a “regular” life. We offer assessments for dogs that have done poorly in shelter environments or are struggling with problem behaviors. We consider it a half way point between shelters and home life. Depending on the complexity of the situation the housing set up will vary for safety reasons. Timelines are also completely dependent on the individual dog. Please contact us directly at Info@BehaviorTails.com to discuss possibilities and openings. We limit this service to 1-2 dogs at a time so schedule is limited.
